Hello world!

Welcome to Baska!

Find out what makes Baska such an irresistible and unique destination for your unforgettable journey….

Baška is situated in a quiet valley, through which flows the only island’s river—Vela Rika, at a bay surrounded by vineyards, olive orchards, growths of Spanish broom, with a picturesque backdrop of the rocky mountain of Velebit and the isle of Prvić. All of these seem to naturally protect a unique, 1800 meters long beach, rightfully considered to be one of the most beautiful on the Adriatic.
Baška has won a number of prestigious tourist awards, thus claiming its place at the very top of Croatian tourism.
The biggest tourist attraction is its 2km long natural pebble beach with a sand floor—Vela plaža—stretching along the town centre, surrounded by many bars, restaurants, pizzerias and cafés. There are also sports centres offering various activities such as tennis, mini golf, soccer, underwater fishing, diving, sailing etc.
Since 1999, the European Blue Flag has flown on Baška’s Big Beach and has become a trademark of Baška, as proof of the high quality of beach standards.
The Blue Flag is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, and symbolises a well-preserved, safe and pleasant surrounding, clean sea and coast, and a beach that is well maintained, with a well developed system for management of the area.

On the beach you can hire pedal boats, windsurfers, parasols, sunloungers and other things to help you spend an enjoyable and carefree time on the beach.
Along with Vela plaža, there are as many as 30 other pebble beaches you can reach on foot or by boat.

Another special attraction of Baška is its 4km long walkway along the sea, flanked by restaurants and bars. Not only meant for walking, it is also appropriate for cycling, jogging and roller-skating.
Baška is surrounded by rocky landscapes catching the eye. For the lovers of climbing, there are 19 well-marked tourist trails, with a combined length of over 80km. They range from easy to demanding, according to anyone’s wishes, abilities and mood. Ancient shepherd paths will take you through herb-scented landscapes to breath-taking belvederes above Baška.

If you love hiking, the surrounding hills and coves will take you not only to gorgeous beaches, but also to remains of old settlements—some of them over 1.500 years old.
Numerous sports activities include swimming, diving, surfing, sailing, beach aerobics, pedal boat rides, paragliding above the sea, banana lift and tube rides, aquagan, mini golf, soccer, tennis, ping-pong, ballots, interior and exterior pools, whirlpools, massages, saunas and other wellness activities.

Additionally, Baška has a good tradition of culture and entertainment, traditional island fiestas and summer festivals.
Baška is rich in historical and cultural heritage. The highlights are early Christian findings from 5th century and the celebrated Bašćanska ploča, or Baška tablet, dating from 1100 AD at St. Lucy’s Abbey. This is the best know Croatian written national monument at a remarkable church building. Other memorable sacral buildings include the shrine of Gospa Gorička in the village of Batomalj (which also provides a great view of the whole valley), the baroque parish church of the Holy Trinity in the old centre of Baška, St. Mark’s church and St. Michael’s church.

We trust you will be delighted by picturesque narrow streets and fishermen’s and peasants’ houses of the old part of Baška. Their unique atmosphere will inspire the photographer in you. Take your time, as there is no lack of gorgeous motifs and details. A walk through the streets of old Baška will take you to the first house built there, back in 1525. Have a quiet coffee in a small café, or a glass of wine in an old Baškan wine cellar, and you will definitely sense the spirit of its romantic past. The old part of Baška also hosts its Regional museum and many galleries.
We recommend Baška to families, lovers of sports and to young people wishing to just have fun. It is the right place for anyone who loves spending holidays in a big tourist place, offering a variety of well-organized additional activities.

…You are sincerely welcomed to have a pleasant holiday at Baška and Villa Mare by the Žilavčić family.
